Sydney to the Outback, Uluru and Alice Springs

This 10 day tour is a composite, economical package showing students the vastness of Australia, the Outback icons and provides a fun and adventurous camping safari experience. It is a package that can be incorporated with interesting stopovers in Sydney, Melbourne and Cairns by joining these destinations with domestic flights.

Day 1 Arrive Alice Springs Day 1

  • Fly to Alice Springs, transfer to your accommodation
  • Afternoon walking tour of Alice Springs
  • Visit Olive Pink Botanical Gardens
  • Royal Flying Doctors Service
  • Rex’s Reptile Centre
  • Anzac Hill – photograph panoramic view of Alice Springs
  • Town Mall and Shopping Complex

Evening welcome by Indigenous Colleagues and cultural show

Day 2 Alice Springs Touring Day 2

  • Visit Alice Springs Telegraph Station
  • School of The Air
  • Alice Springs Desert Park
  • Free time in the afternoon to visit Indigenous art galleries and shops
  • Late afternoon and evening Earth Sanctuary Dinner and Show (Earth Sanctuary World Nature Centre is a leader in the field of sustainability in education and eco-tourism)
  • Return to your accommodation

Day 3 West MacDonnell Ranges Day 3

  • Morning visit to Standley Chasm an Aboriginal owned enterprise and significant sacred site and natural fornation.
  • Visit the Ochre Pits where Aboriginals used ochre to paint their bodies
  • Stop at Ellery Creek Bighole or Ormiston Gorge – maybe an opportunity for a swim
  • Afternoon stop at Glen Helen
  • Travel to Wallace Rockhole, an Aboriginal Community
  • Campfire talks and evening participation in a dot painting workshop.

Day 4 Hermannsburg & Mereenie Loop Day 4

  • Indigenous guided walk to a rock carving site at Wallace Rockhole and other sacred location.
  • Morning visit to the Hermannsburg Mission and Community for an Indigenous guided walk through the historic precinct
  • Travel through Aboriginal land via the Mereenie Loop Road to Kings Canyon Resort
  • Evening music & entertainment at the resorts Bistro

Day 5 Kings Canyon To Uluru Day 5

  • Early morning climb (self guided) & rim walk around Kings Canyon
  • Visit a large cattle station
  • Late afternoon visit to the Uluru National Park & photographic opportunities of Uluru at sunset.

National park entry permit included

Day 6 Tour Uluru Day 6

  • Enter the National Park and view sunrise from the viewing point
  • Visit Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park Cultural Centre
  • Guided tour of Uluru including the Kuniya and Liru Walk
  • Afternoon visit to Kata Tjuta to walk and explore the Gorge
  • Sunset viewing of Kata Tjuta and Uluru at the Kata Tjuta viewing platform

Day 7 Uluru to Coober Pedy Day 7

  • Journey across the remote outback of South Australia
  • Visit the “Breakaway Country” with its colourful scenery
  • Stopover at Australia’s richest and largest opal fields
  • Coober Pedy town tour and opal cutting demonstration

Day 8 Onwards to Port Lincoln - Home of the Tuna Day 8

  • Journey past salt lakes and large sheep properties enroute to Port Augusta
  • Travel through Port Augusta and on to Port Lincoln – one of Australia’s most important fishing areas

Day 9 Swim With the Tuna and Travel To Adelaide Day 9

  • A unique and fantastic experience swimming with the Tuna (2-3 metres)
  • Sightseeing tour of Port Lincoln town, harbor and fishing ports
  • Journey to Adelaide for overnight cabin accommodation
  • Scenic evening tour of Adelaide including a night out at the Woolshed.
  • Try your luck on the bucking bull ride and enjoy steak and chips and other cholces
  • A fun last night together

Day 10 Adelaide to Melbourne Day 10

  • An early start for our final day’s journey to Melbourne – city arrival approx. 7:30pm depending on location

 

Students returning to Sydney may choose to fly Adelaide – Sydney in the afternoon of Day 10. Contact Austour for specific itinerary arrangements to meet individual group needs. Meal: Breakfast

Your tour cost includes:

  • The provision of a suitable modern touring vehicle to fit the needs and size of the group.
  • Fully equipped catering and luggage trailer – refer to itinerary
  • The services of an experienced and accredited driver / guide.
  • Airport Transfer from Alice Springs Airport to accommodation on Day 1 only
  • The provision of a tour manager responsible for tour operations and catering safari style.
  • The provision of all accommodation Days 1-9 inclusive. Multi-share 4, 5 or 6 students per room, or in twin-share pyramid tents with in built vinyl floors and comfortable mattresses, teachers twin-share. Single supplement additional cost. – as per itinerary
  • The provision of cooked breakfasts and light breakfasts, salad and sandwich lunches with fruit, cake and juice and 3 course evening meals as per itinerary.
  • The provision of an individual dilly bag with personal knife, fork and spoon, cup, bowl and plate
  • The payment of all accommodation, visits, attractions and entry fees as per itinerary.
  • The provision of 1 tour Chaperone per 10 students covering transport and accommodation .
  • Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park entry fee (School to apply for exemption – contact Austour).

  • Transfer to and from airport from home or home host venue at beginning and end of tour.
  • Cost associated with overnight accommodation on day 10 or additional touring arrangements and sightseeing or ongoing transport to meet group additional needs.
