West MacDonnell Ranges to Watarrka National Park, Kings Canyon Day 1

Dreamtime Escarpment Accommodation

Depart Alice Springs at 7.30 am. Your first stop this morning will be at Simpsons Gap where the rock pool attracts rock wallabies and abundant bird life. Also visit spectacular Ormiston Gorge, Glen Helen Wilderness Resort and by 4WD visit one of the world’s greatest comet impact sites that created Goss’ Bluff. Travel through Aboriginal land along the Mereenie track towards Kings Canyon stopping enroute to photograph wildlife – perhaps camels, donkeys, horses. Stargaze tonight or watch out for wildlife that may wander past.

 

 

Gold & Platinum clients stay at Kings Creek Station Wilderness Lodge – traverse the terrain by quad bike to your accommodation – luxurious, secluded ‘glamping’ retreat positioned along the escarpment. The focus is on comfort with quality linens and décor, king-size or twin beds, a private bathroom with a difference, luxury amenities, bathrobe and slippers, power, heating, air-conditioning and coffee pod machine.

Watarrka National Park Day 2

Safari and Premium clients: Up early to photograph the sunrise over one of Central Australia’s most spectacular landscapes, Kings Canyon. A three hour guided walk enables you to follow the Canyon Rim. In the afternoon a helicopter flight over Kings Creek Station and Kings Canyon plus a quad bike experience! Return to Kings Canyon Resort for overnight.

 

Gold and Platinum clients: morning at Kings Creek Station where time will be available for a helicopter flight over the station and Kings Canyon. In the afternoon a 3 hour guided rim walk around Kings Canyon plus a guided base tour.    Return to Kings Creek Station for overnight.

To Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park Day 3

Depart Kings Canyon or Kings Creek Station and travel via the Luritja Road to the Lasseter Highway stopping at the viewing point of Atilla (Mt Connor) an unusual mountain formation often at first sighting incorrectly identified as Uluru. Nearby you can photograph Lake Amadeus, the third largest salt lake in Australia after Lake Eyre and Lake Disappointment. Visit Curtin Springs Cattle Station for a memorable hearty outback station lunch.

 

This afternoon journey to Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park following the old road to Uluru (permit permitting). Afternoon guided tour with an indigenous guide. View sunset on Uluru. Tour concludes at Ayers Rock Resort after sunset.

Special Note: This itinerary is frequently extended by a day to further explore the National Park including Kata Tjuta.
