The Lodge’s Twilight Walking Trails sport abundant birdlife, wallabies, possums and barn owls and well worth the experience.

Highlights:

Kangaroo Island: is Australia’s third-largest island, after Tasmania and Melville Island. Its closest point to the mainland is Snapper Point in Backstair Passage which is 13.5 km (8.4 mi) from the Fleurieu Peninsula.

Once occupied by Australian Aborigines, the native population disappeared after the land became an island following rising sea levels several thousand years ago. It was subsequently resettled from the early 19th century onwards, at first casually by sealers and whalers, and then as part of the colony of South Australia from 1836.

Since then the island’s economy has been principally agricultural, with a southern rock lobster fishery and with tourism growing in importance. The largest town, and the administrative centre, is Kingscote. The island has several nature reserves to protect the remnants of its natural vegetation and native animals, with the largest and best-known being Flinders Chase National Park at the western end.

Fleurieu Peninsula: It was named after Charles Pierre Claret de Fleurieu, the French explorer and hydrographer, by the French explorer Nicolas Baudin as he explored the south coast of Australia in 1802. It was named after Charles Pierre Claret de Fleurieu, the French explorer and hydrographer, by the French explorer Nicolas Baudin as he explored the south coast of Australia in 1802. The Fleurieu Peninsula is an adventure playground famous for its coastal thrills, secluded beaches, adventurous tours and unspoilt wildlife.

Prospect Hill: Our visit to Prospect Hill enable you to climb to the summit using the 512 steps to see fantastic views of the ocean and the island.

Pennington Bay: sits on the south coast of Kangaroo Island. It is a stunning bay that is famous for its surfing.

KANGAROO ISLAND NATIONAL PARK Day 2

Today, your journey begins at Clifford’s Honey Farm, where honey tasting is a must. Kangaroo Island is home to the world’s oldest bee sanctuary and the only pure strain of Ligurian Bee in the world.

Seal Bay Conservation Park on the western end of Cape Gantheaume Conservation Park sets the scene for guided walks amongst Australia’s sea-lion colony – Kangaroo Island’s premier attraction.

Further west, Kangaroo Island’s famous ‘Koala Walk’ at the Hanson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary is another experience. On this leisurely walk you may find up to 20 koalas relaxing in the shade of the Eucalyptus trees.

Flinders Chase National Park is known for its amazing wildlife experiences and some of the Island’s best attractions. From the wind swept rock formations of Remarkable Rocks to Admirals Arch, where New Zealand Fur Seals frolic and surf the surging waves – all a sight to see.

On your return to Mercure Kangaroo Island Lodge, keep a look out for Kangaroo Island’s wildlife as it ventures out to feed in the late afternoon.

Testimonials

Comments from our tour guides’ personal diary from satisfied clients

We recently spent 3 awesome days touring Kangaroo Island. This tour far exceeded our expectations and has set the bar for future tours. The tour size was small (4 people) and the 4-wheel drive vehicle handled the rugged terrain with ease and comfort. We were taken off the beaten path where we observed koala, kangaroo, various birds, sea lions and seals in their natural habitat. This tour was an amazing lifetime experience that we will not forget.
