Max and Sue Whitehead, founders of Austour, first visited Central Australia in the early 60's, when Alice Springs had a population of 3,000, now it is approaching 30,000. Uluru (Ayers Rock) had just been annexed from the Petermann Ranges Aboriginal Reserve and the first Ranger appointed was Bill Harney. In 1963 less than 1,500 visitors made the 15 hour journey from Alice to "The Rock" by coach. Last year over 485,000 visited the Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park.

I am at the same time overjoyed and sad to take part of this tour, because it is the end of a bright trip in a fabulous country : Australia.
It was a dream since a long time to come and to discover your country and I am now able to say that I am really happy to have completed this project. We have been surrounded by great people. Dave, our coach captain, is on one hand a really good driver but he is also ready to make am effort speaking slowly with easy words for people who have not a very good level of english, like me ! We can feel that he loves his country and he knows how to transmit his passion for it . THANK YOU VERY MUCH DAVE ! I had the good luck to become friend with Carolin who is for me more than an interpretor. She is always present for any problem. She is great and always in a good mood ! We shared a lot of things together (diving, ocean rafting, speed boat, helicopter) so I would not be able to forget her easily. A huge thanks to Carol. And what about Mike, our cook ? Of course, he is great behind his kitchen range ( it is better to say his barbecue) but he knows everything about Australia's fauna and flora which is though really diversified. Thanks for all his explanations…and I don't talk about his sense of humour!

As I said at the beginning, I am really sad that everything will be finished. My come back to France will be difficult and I will miss you a lot. But we never know, we will maybe see you again another day!

The first meeting gave us an idea and the spirit of what kind of tour it will be. It make us more confident regarding this adventure.
We had the feeling that the staff took care of us. However, we participated to the group life and we were independent.

We have reached our objective: to discover Australia, the population, flora, fauna.

The rhythm was strenuous but the schedule was well balanced. We appreciated our free day.

This tour has been great! I've been on a tour like this once, but this one was the best because I met lots of people from different countries, and everyone has their own story to tell to others. The crew has been fantastic. Dave was always helpful telling us everything about the places we have been visiting and Wendy was always nice, even id I ate a lot.

Thanks to Dave for making our trip very comfortable in the coach and on the various tours we took, nothing seemed too much for him.
Our highlight of the adventure was Kings Canyon, The Olgas and Uluru. This country is just so big and vast and is covered in some of the most interesting vegetation. Our fellow travellers were a great bunch of accepting and happy people from all over the world and we thank them for their company.

Well where else could I be beaten in a game of lawn bowls by a Bundy drinking German? Had a great time cruising up the East Coast, Fraser Island and the reef off Cairns were spectacular as expected. Really what made the trip was such a fantastic group of tour buddies and crew.


Greatest appreciation to Dave the gentleman is the epitome of professionalism, patience and absolute legend. The structure of the tour has been greatly organized. We have seen places we would not have ventured to if we did a trip by ourselves.

This was a great experience very beautiful, my wonderful friend told me about it. I liked to listen to all the English even when I couldn't understand everything.
Everyone was very agreeable and nice. One particular experience was putting up the tents, as we have never done this before.
The staff at Austour were terrific from first contact. Particular compliments to Wendy for her organisation of the meals and kitchen.
